Miami Chapel

Miami, Florida

Participating in an invited competition, fr·ee’s winning design for a chapel in Miami, Florida translates the traditional iconography of the Roman Catholic Church into built form, resembling the pleats of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s chasuble. The vertical concrete structure rises to the sky and doubles as an acoustic filter for the large interior space. A suspended oculus that displays an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe filters light into the presbytery, complementing the gold patina of the surface and adding a soft glow to the overall atmosphere.
