Canakkale, Turkey
In 2013, Çanakkale, a city with a rich history and grounds of the ancient battles of Gallipoli and Troy, held an international competition to design a new Antenna Tower. Named “Peak Point”, the 100 meter high tower is a novel type of public space where unexpected domains come together. The structure progresses as a natural evolution from the landscape, a vertical extension of the ever-present historical strata merging the tower and park typologies to create more than 54,0000 ft2 (6,000 m2) for observation, communication and culture.
The base of the Antenna Tower forms a continuous public space that extends from the existing landscape, while a single surface wraps around the efficient antenna core with spaces for education, interactive exhibits including a timeline of historical events, art exhibits, performance canopies and 360-degree viewing platforms.
